Hospital is recipient of achievement award

North Hawaii Community Hospital has received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines — Coronary Artery Disease Annual Performance Achievement Award. The award was presented earlier this month at the association’s Scientific Sessions 2006, the nation’s largest meeting of cardiac professionals, held at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place in Chicago.

The hospital was recognized for its commitment to quality and success in implementing the highest standards of cardiac care shown to effectively improve treatment of patients hospitalized with coronary artery disease. The Waimea hospital is the first on the Big Island and one of only 67 hospitals in the United States to receive this distinction.

The award arrives less than two years following the launch of the hospital’s center for cardiovascular excellence, Hawaii Heart Brain Center. Additional recognition detailing the accomplishments of the hospital can be seen in the December issue of the publication, “Circulation.”

Hungry benefit from Movie Gallery program

Movie Gallery in the North Kona Coast Shopping Center announces the return of the Gingerbread Tree. In partnership with Family Support Service of West Hawaii and KTA Superstores, Movie Gallery will again be helping to provide Christmas dinners for families with limited resources this season.

The public may stop by Movie Gallery and purchase a gingerbread person from the tree for $50, which represents a full Christmas dinner for six (spiral ham, mashed potatoes with gravy, corn on the cob, rolls and dessert). Smaller donations are also welcome to help meet the need to feed 80 of the community’s neediest families.
